The faction system in the Aurbis world will consist of 10+ main canonical Skyrim factions and all 9 main Jarldom holdings, which will be the core functional game factions within the world. Skyrim is an ancient province of a great Empire and most institutions are well established and their traditions are proven and respected. Canonical factions will each have their own unique list of features and capabilities, but share a dynamic generalized faction system. This faction substrate will also be available for the new factions that develop within the world and go through an application process, with potential for custom capabilities as the world expands.
How it works
A faction in Aurbis is a defined organization with a charter, a roster, a rank ladder, and a leadership chain. The canonical factions — the Companions, the College of Winterhold, the Thieves Guild, the Imperial Legion, the Stormcloaks, and the rest — carry the capabilities the lore gives them: their own quartermasters, their own holdings, their own oaths. New factions formed in-world go through an application, are recognized by the realm, and inherit the same substrate: ranks they can name and move members through, properties they can claim and hold, succession laws they declare at founding (see Faction Succession Laws). The substrate is dry plumbing; what makes a faction worth being in is who else is in it.
