Before factions is the cohort system. Cohorts can be ancient Nordic clans, great Imperial houses, Orc warbands, Khajiit caravans or Argonian broods. Cohorts can be close families, extended tribes, companies, guilds, warbands, covens or any sort of fellowship. Anyone can create a cohort with a group of 3+ individuals and there will be tiers of cohort recognition based on membership count. Factions will consist of multiple of cohorts and faction leadership will only be considered on a cohort basis, individuals are not expected to apply.
We will be allowing groups to establish themselves as lore friendly or previously existing cohorts in our growing world. These established artifacts will have to post a public application with their foundational lore and be explicit about their goals and role in Skyrim on Aurbis so it can be easily referenced by others that wish to orient themselves in our lore.
How it works
A cohort begins with three people. From there it builds: a name, a charter, an invite list, a public title for what it is — clan, house, warband, brood, crew. Cohorts have tiers based on active membership; the higher the tier, the more recognition the realm grants. Founders extend invitations; invites are accepted or declined; the public roster grows visible to all. Succession is declared at founding, so when leadership changes — by death, decay, or formal handover — the next hand is named without confusion. A faction-level group is built from cohorts, not from individuals; the path up runs through this substrate.
